Post 1 – Goal Setting

SETTING GOALS FOR 2023!

Have you set your goals for 2023? If not, now is the time. Setting goals is not just thinking to yourself what you would like during the next 12 months. Setting goals is a process.

  1. Make a list of things you would like to accomplish next year.
  2. Group the list into categories, say, family, business, finance, etc. There is no finite list of categories, it all depends on what you want to do.
  3. For each category, work your items into 1 – 3 goals.
  4. Make sure you do not have more than 10 goals in total. You can have 4-6 business-related and 4-6 personal goals. If your total count is higher than 10 you will start losing focus.
  5. Make two new lists: a. Business (farm), b. Personal
  6. Now write each goal on a sheet of paper. For a goal to be properly set it must be:
  7. Achievable. It should not be something routine, say, to irrigate or another daily task. It should be challenging, but not unreachable.
  8. It must be specific. Growing your business is not a goal. Growing your business volume by 20% is.
  9. It must be measurable. Increasing my saving is not a goal. To increase my saving by $10 per week is.
  10. Each goal must have a beginning and an end. That is, to set a deadline when to achieve the goal. The beginning is set, for January 1st.
  11. Summary: A proper goal therefore would be, for example: To grow my revenue from my farm by 20%, compared to 2021, by December 31, 2023,
  12. Finally, you must write an action plan for each goal. That is, write down the specific steps you must take to reach your goal.

Review your goals periodically. You should have your goals written where you can see them every day. But at least once per month you should sit down and evaluate where you are in terms of your goals, what you need to do better, and if you must revise some of them.

Make sure everyone has bought into your goals. If your goal is personal, ask yourself who can influence it, your spouse, family, or friends. If the goal has to do with your family, make sure they understand and agree. Same with business, make sure everyone knows your expectations, and make sure you do everything possible to help them help you to achieve the goal.
