Starting from Zero – Next generation. The future!

On these pages, I have mentioned various times, and for good reason, how hard it is to get young people to choose agriculture as their vocation.

At the same time, people in the city are complaining about how hard it is to find daycare for their children while the parents are working.

Farmers are about the only profession, where every day is a “bring-the-kids-to-work-day”.

Promise Sekeleti is only 8 years old and attending 3rd grade in Sinda District in the Eastern part of Zambia.  He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sekeleti.  He has been with his father, following his every step since his father started his work on his farm, we have been reading about here for the past weeks.

As soon as Promise is home after school, and homework is done, he is out with his father attending to whatever needs to be addended to on the farm.  Feeding the fish in the pond, planting, tending to the fields, fencing, applying fertilizer, etc.  At the same time, he is attentively listening, learning, and emulating the grownups around him.

And the children catch up fast.  His father told me, Promise was negotiating a bicycle with him the other day, I replied his son had started early with his labor negotiation.

If you allow your children to follow you, and you teach and nurture their love for nature and the outdoors, and educate them about agriculture along the way, you will have the next generation of farmers with you all the time.
