Eugine Mwambila, Zambia African Entrepreneur

Eugine Mwambila, a Zambian Agriculture Entrepreneur  went into farming because of his passion to work with the land, a desire to sustain himself and his family in a way closer to nature. When you started over 10 years ago he started with very little. Today,  Eugine is now operating on 15 hectares of farmland that he manages in partnership with a NGO and  ZNAPHD,

He is located in the Zambian, District of Lufwanyama, on the Copperbelt.   Besides locally, Eugine sells to the restaurants of Kitwe.

Eugine operates  4 hectares of soybeans and maize each and the remaining seven hectares are divided between vegetables, cabbage & rape, pigs, boiler chickens, and his newest product additions of fish ponds, to increase diversity of the ecosystem. Eugine is excited about his first harvest from the fish ponds in January, when the process has been ongoing for seven months.  He is expecting 500 kilos per pond or 1,500 kilos of fish from the three fish ponds he has on the farm.

One of Eugine’s biggest challenges as an agricultural entrepreneur is water management and irrigation to take advantage of the rainy seasons, so he can increase his yield and revenue. While Eugine harvests the rain-fed crops once per year, he harvests the vegetables twice per month all year round. Eugine feels that the easiest part of his farm operations are the chickens and pigs where the turnaround is quick and easy.
